Self-esteem vs Overconfidence

Read an extremely interesting essay about the polarization between the cuddly, vague and emotionally gloating "self-esteem movement" and its ferocious critics that condemn any attempts to refute their own idealistic beliefs in academic endeavors. According to the essay (in line with what I believe) both of the extremes lead to passivity. The self-esteemers desperately hold on to a dream of the magic of positive thinking, while the the citics desperately cling to their status-quo heuristic that "success (for most) equals compromise and suffering".
What's your opinion on the subject?
Here's the essay in question:

This is where new magic is happening. This is the secret destination of countless hour-long journeys through the outskirts of Stockholm.

Don't play with the aura of this location!

First enjoy the entrance to "Warehouse 12". That blue door is supported by a thick metal bar: sizzling!

Next, enjoy some of our lanlord's (who lets us stay for a disappearingly low rent) reknowned "shitting-wagons". Always ready for heavy-duty service.

Here is home, the sanctuary...

Beta ver 1.2

So, though I'm not entirely new to the concept, I'll try to make this a blogging-restart in some sense. I think there are many reasons to fail an attempt at blogging, but the two most important ones are: time and perfectionism. The last turns out to be extrordinarily solid obstacle. As someone said: you're gonna have to stay true to the device: "if it's good enough for TV.."

There are several inspirations that have made it impossible for me to disregard from the phoenomenon. In my education I've come across a few almost cult-ish figures, whose blogs I came across, one at a time.

As it is, I check these out every day together with the daily intake of events from my friends' blogs.

It's most fascinating how easy it is to stay updated with a number of pretty complex subjects. Oh yeah, that is something my blog still lacks, but you can be sure it isn't going to end up in a Seinfeld "the blog about nothing"-stunt. Something will surface.

According to anthropologist Grant Mccracken blogging is all about keeping the "discourse" alive. Well, I'll ponder on how to achieve that while starting this up.

Consider this my "beta-blogging".
Test test..
